Full day program: Experience the Viking age and "King Haakon the Good"
It is our great pleasure and honour to welcome your group to Spurkeland Vikinggard, and the home village of two of the greatest Viking-kings in Norwegian history: Harald Fairhair and his son King Haakon the Good!
The history of Seim village and Spurkeland Vikinggard is mainly focused around King Haakon, and his heritage to the Norwegian people.
As part of a full-day visit at Spurkeland Vikinggard, we would love to show you the tumulus of Haakon the Good, and also a couple of other historical sites in the village of Seim.
We have suggested a full day Viking experience at the Viking farm.
Draft Schedule and program:
We will have a bus-transfer arranged for you to take you from your hotel in Bergen to Spurkeland Vikinggard in the morning. The ride will take approximately 40 minutes, and you are expected to arrive at the gateway to Seim around 10 o’ clock.
10.00: ”Viking-guides” enter your buses at the gateway to Seim.
You will then be taken to see the grave of Thora Mostaff, Haakon’s mother, and of course the tumulus of Haakon himself.
11.00: Arrival at Spurkeland Vikinggard:
A welcoming drink, hot or cold, and a quick snack will be served upon your arrival, and the chief and his wife will greet you and give you a brief orientation on what is in store for the day.
To make sure each of you get the most out of your stay with us, we will probably need to divide your group into smaller units for parts of the day, and then gather for meals and cultural performances. We will however get back to this when everything else in the program is settled and agreed upon.
11.45: Theatrical Act: The Sagastory of Haakon, The Good.
12.30: Lunch: ”Viking-buffét” :
- Suggestion for main course: A warming soup made with either wild lamb and root vegetables, or a rich fish soup, both served with viking bread, ramson butter and cured meats.
- We can also offer a taste of cooked meat prepared in a cooking pit, like the vikings used to do it.
- Beverages will be homemade elderberry juice (non-alcoholic) or fresh water
- ”Viking -dessert”, Coffee/Tea
12.30: Reenactment-show by The Viking Battle Group, ”Alenfit”.
13.45: Activities for you to try out:
Bow and Arrow, axe-throwing, swordfighting wearing chain mail, log-flipping, ”Thor’s Hammer”, ”Holmgang”, blacksmith-demo, needlework-demo and musical performances, visit our walk-through tumulus with vikingship inside, meet the animals, etc.
15.30: Musical performance and refreshments.
16.00: Departure (arrival Bergen 16:45).
On top of this, you will all get a small souvenir to bring home with you, in memory of us. 😊
Best regards,
